Halloween at the Blackwood Hotel
Friday 31st October
Where spirits never left…
This Halloween, Victoria’s most historic country pub comes alive — with stories of the past, the warmth of a roaring fire, and one unforgettable night in the Wombat State Forest.
The Blackwood Hotel, established in 1868, is not only the oldest continuously licensed weatherboard hotel in Victoria — it’s also one of the state’s most storied venues, with a real haunted history.
Once used as the town’s morgue during the gold rush era, the space beneath the pub still carries the echoes of its past. And on Halloween night, co-owner Jerry Dimas will lead guests through this underground space — complete with a recreated morgue scene and stories of tragic tales, including the ghost of Laura, said to have perished in a fire long ago.
Family-Friendly Halloween in the Hills
Start the night with Blackwood’s community-wide trick-or-treat tradition, where families wind their way through the streets and even the local cemetery in a uniquely spooky celebration. Then join us at the pub for a warming dinner, drinks, and a night of storytelling that blends local history with Halloween chills.
